Final Reflection

Words cannot begin to describe what I saw within the past 4 weeks. We witnessed new life and we witnessed death. We witnessed happiness and we witnessed sorrow. I can truly say I witnessed and learned more things through my senior project than I have in my entire life. This experience taught me so many things not only about where we were, but about my potential future and passions in life. Devyn and I can both say we definitely realized how fortunate we are not only because of what we are given, but also because we were raised in the greatest country.
While being at Sheltering Arms, I got to experience another side of how children live that I have never seen before, or so I thought. We saw what it was like for kids to receive a poor education, while still surrounded by people who still love and care about them so much. I fell in love with my one and two year old class and I knew I was going to miss them so much. However, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. After living in Belize with 45 children for 15 days, I actually fell in love with them. I experienced so much being in another country and being able to be a part of these kid’s daily lives. The trust that was built from these kids amazed me and only made me want to stay longer. Although there were many tears shed, I would not take back any second being there and I can’t wait to go back to visit.
After exploring the Medical Field, I learned so much about what I want to do in the future. I verified that I definitely want to be a nurse. After shadowing a pediatric oncology nurse and being in the ER at Grady, I could see myself potentially working in either of those fields, but definitely not doing surgery. I was so lucky to be able to witness so many experiences at these hospitals and I can’t wait for this to become apart of my daily life.

I am so lucky to be able to experience everything I did this month. Although I am happy to be done with high school, I would do anything to go back and do my senior project all over again. I highly suggest doing a senior project because one can accomplish so much within a short period of time. I am so thankful for everyone who contributed to my experience and I hope to do something like this again soon.
