Today was a very sad day for me.
When saying our goodbyes, no tears were shed; however, once we got on the plane
I cried the entire ride home. I know that in the near future, but sometime
soon, I will be returning to Liberty to see everyone.
This
morning the cook was not feeling well so she went home sick and we cooked
breakfast for all of the kids before school. Unfortunately, we had to serve
them fried tortillas and half of a hotdog because this is a typical meal for
them. I wish there was a way we could incorporate fruits and vegetables into
their daily meals. Anyway, after we served breakfast we did our last walk with
the kids to school. While we were waiting for the bus to arrive, everyone was
standing there in a daze dreading the moment for the final hug goodbye. Once
the bus arrived and we sent them off for school and Devyn and I walked back to
clean up the kitchen and help do laundry. We then cleaned up our apartment and
did final packing things before heading to the airport (1 mile away) with Wafi.
As we said goodbye to Wafi I still did not shed a tear, which we were all
surprised about.
Once we
landed, we went through customs and greeted our families with bittersweet
emotions. I am so glad I had this opportunity and I can’t wait to go back and
revisit Liberty Children’s Home.
